A BRAINSTORMING SESSION ON AGRARIAN CRISIS IN PUNJAB: DIAGNOSIS AND PROGNOSIS

Institute for Development & Communication, Chandigarh and Bharat Krishak Samaj are setting up a forum to brainstorm on certain aspects of the “Agrarian Crisis in Punjab”.
In the first of a series of discussions around the Agrarian Crisis in Punjab, we are initiating a dialogue around one of the much talked about solutions i.e. “crop diversification”.
The main focus of the brainstorm session would be to examine the following;
- • What is the nature of Agriculture Crisis in Punjab? How this crisis can be understood with reference to regional, national and global context?
- • Is crop diversification the answer to Agrarian Crises in Punjab?
- • Is crop diversification a practical and plausible alternative? If yes, why it could not happen since 1986?
Dr. Ramesh Chand, Member Niti Aayog, Mr. Siraj Hussain, former Secretary, Union Ministry of Agriculture, Prof. Pramod Kumar, Chairperson IDC, Prof. H.S.Shergill, Agri Economist, Prof. Atul Sood, Economist JNU, Dr. Sunil Sinha formerly Chief Economist, Crisil, Ms. Shweta Saini, CEO Arcus Policy Research (APR), Prof. Surinder Singh Kukal, Prof. G.S. Hira, Expert Scientists etc. have already confirmed their participation.
